Estimate the effects of high tide flooding on the U.S. road network
Description:
Coastal infrastructure has increasingly become more vulnerable to flooding. While many studies have shown that extreme events such as storm surge threaten to be ever more costly, less damaging but more frequent flood events remain understudied but potentially carry a comparable level of impacts. High Tide Flooding (HTF) already affects traffic in coastal cities across the United States but the issue will worsen significantly. This study builds on previous work to advance understanding of the risks and impacts of HTF on vulnerable traffic corridors over this century. We present national-scale risks in the form of traffic delays and indirect costs, along with estimates of how reasonably anticipated adaptation and direct adaptation actions can reduce risk.
